ellymelly: (TARDIS)
First and foremost - this season is a mystery that we have to solve. The Doctor keeps insisting that we ask the right questions and I have no doubt that he's hidden a secret from himself that he'll be trying to unravel. Everything we've seen so far are clues to this mystery. Before we unravel it, we need to remember that when it comes down to the line, Moffat is very straight forward with his plots. He also loves re-using his own characters so I'd bet money that this year is about righting old wrongs and setting a few kinks in the universe straight.

What was The Doctor's advice? Has this ever happened before?

My predictions:

The doctor knows where Gallifrey is but the process of regeneration was going to destroy that information, so he's hidden it in the pocket watch then left himself clues. He's going to need that bloody pocket watch back... Idiot.

The doctor will scribble over everything with chalk until he falls into a bubble universe, destroy/trick/defeat/woo the gatekeeper (Missy) and find Gallifrey.

Missy will be someone we know. Her manner resembles River Song (who is presumably 'dead' after the events of the season final and thus able to appear in this weird visage of 'heaven' the robot called, 'the promised land'). It's possible the ring has appeared to remind him that he's married, he's almost certainly stored some of his memories in the pocket watch before regenerating (hence his failing memory) and the older incantation of the doctor is actually something River spent most of last season harping on about. Don't forget she's a Timelord and could both change form and be working with the other Timelords to help The Doctor rescue Gallifrey from the bubble universe.

If anything, 'IN THE FOREST OF THE NIGHT' sounds suspiciously like a call-back to 'FOREST OF THE DEAD'

If Missy is some version of River Song, then it fits neatly with the running theme of leaving people behind. He left her in a library computer to do then in a dying Tardis.

Missy could also be the Tardis... "He can be very mean you know, except to me because he loves me so much." There aren't many people that The Doctor truly loves - or can call him their 'boyfriend'. "I do like his knew accent though - think I might keep it." Is weird.

That makes it sound like Missy is part of the doctor herself. Re-watching her last scene - she speaks as though she were in the room when the Doctor was tormenting the robot guy. If she is part-doctor then his memory might also have ended up in her.

It's hard to tell from one episode but if Moffat abides by the law of mystery writing (which you'd hope he would considering his work on Sherlock) then we already have enough information to work out what's going on.

Tagged by [livejournal.com profile] tardis_mafia lol but my answers will not be as interesting as hers!

Rule one: Always post the rules.
Rule two: Answer the questions the person who tagged you asked and write 11 new ones.
Rule three: Tag 11 people and link them to the post.  I'm not tagging anyone but people can steal at will!
Rule four: Actually tell them you tagged them.

TARDIS MAFIA's QUESTIONS:

1. What is the object to your immediate left?

A glass of English Breakfast tea brewed in my new glass tumbler given to me by T2 for my birthday. Typical - of course it was tea!

2. How are you feeling right now? Yes, right now!

Like I should be writing but instead I've put on Downton Abbey. I'm also annoyed at myself because i didn't make any effort to clean my house today and I really shouldn't have eaten that enormous plate of vege cous cous!

3. Ear phones or ear buds?

Ear buds - but only because ear phones hurt my hears. I wish I could wear enormous retro ones but alas! Head!

4. Favorite book by your favorite author?

Tough. I can list some that are all at the top but I cannot pick between them.

Anything by the great Robert J Sawyer but in particular, Calculating God.
The Harry Potter Series - J K Rowling.
The Tomorrow Series - John Marsden
The Man Who Invented the 20th Century - Robert Lomas (the one responsible for introducing me to Tesla).

So - so many more.

5. What is your favorite TV show dated before the year 2000?

Stargate SG1 absolutely no contest.

6. You're out on a date - who would you be with, what would you order, and what would you mostly talk about? (I know it's technically 3 questions, but I'm cheating. :D)

Those of you who know me know EXACTLY who I'd be on a date with but I sure as frak am not incriminating myself in print! I'd be ordering some kind of lightly fried seafood (because I'd sure as hell be by the beach somewhere) and we'd talk about all the reprehensible things we did the night before.

7. You've just won $10,000 - what is the first thing you do with it?

I want to say something responsible but I'd probably blow it all going to Canada.

8. The Muppets or Sesame Street?

I watched Sesame Street so I'd have to be loyal and say that.

9. What was the last thing you bought?

*thinks* A skirt from Bloche that I've been stalking for ages and it finally went on sale!

10. Your two favorite actors get into a fight, physical or verbal, your choice - which one would win?

Jonathon Young and Amanda Tapping - verbal fight as their alter egos Nikola Tesla and Samantha Carter. After several bottles of wine they become too drunk to continue arguing about whose character is a better scientist and they pass out with no winner.

MY QUESTIONS OF DOOM

1. Game console of choice?
2. How many cushions are on your couch?
3. If I say, 'Green, Black, White, Yellow' do you know what I'm talking about...?
4. TV shows you still race home to watch?
5. Movie that has affected you the most, either in a good way or bad way?
6. Plasma or LCD?
7. If you could go clubbing right now, which music would you get down to? 90's pop or today's coolest club beats?
8. If I make you order coffee you pick... (yes I realise this will be hard for the Americans. Your coffee is terrible!!!)
9. Which era of history would you most like to live in? (And yes you can pick the future).
10. Which action star to you enjoy watching the most?
11. The Mummy franchise - yay or nay? (if you say nay I'm de-friending you immediately!)
ellymelly: (before you all panic)
So I share a birthday with Nikola Tesla! (which is amazing). Oddly I spent most of the day reblogging things about him (including the epic news that the CEO of Tesla Motors has donated a Million dollars to the guys salvaging Nikola's lab, turning it into an interactive museum).

Anyway I thought I should probably do a post about my birthday on my LJ :D

Firstly, I got a haul! Mostly importantly I got a new LiveScribe to replace the one that sadly died on me. I also received a beautiful dusty pink jacket, flowers and a teddy (below), books!!! notebook, tea thermos, bookmark and tea strainer.

My teddy is adorable, you can see me hugging him here - as i said to caz, he's so squishy! I spent all of friday asleep on the poor thing.

96

Also I thought it would be a good idea, for the record, to document what I actually look like at 27. Me, below, no makeup. That's it - that's what you get at 27 LOL. Proper skincare routine starts TOMORROW.
27 - come on, I don't remember how I got here...

Goodness... I think I spent 5 hours playing Skyrim today and i didn't even notice. This games is way too addictive. I think I'm going to be all adult and put myself on a curfew. Considering it's an open world game I could be there at it for bloody ever and not make a dent. SCARY.

Also, there is some kind of epic wind storm kicking about up here in the suburbs. Not sure where it came from but it doesn't appear to have any rain to go with it. Just wind. I'm afraid it might knock over my baby basil plant (which I feel too guilty to eat) over! Maybe I should go rescue it...

Have spent the rest of the day on work related, frantic phone calls. *sigh* weekend? what weekend? weekends are a myth!

I feel like a doctor - on call all the time. I should get one of those buzzy-pager things you see in 90's films. Anyone else remember those?

Have decided to come back to Livejournal well - technically I didn't leave I just used my RP account instead of my personal so what I really mean is ELLYMELLY is coming back to LJ. The new team they have in charge is repairing the place we all liked to call our home. We already have back most of the things that made people leave and by the looks of it, the new team is going to start giving us things that we request. Already it is infinitely better than the other shitty sites that I've been forced to lurk in.

Please please please I hope other people start coming back. LJ is a much better platform to share and catchup than the UGLY AS ALL HELL facebook. Tumblr's lovely but it's not a home. Twitter's fun but it's only a noticeboard.

If you left LJ because of the changes they made, try coming back. The more of us that return, the faster this place will return to its glory days as THE PLACE of fandom.

So, on this note, I will resume making icons and layouts.

EPISODE 1 : CHILDREN OF THE GODS

Things I love:

  • giant lizard costumes - frak yes!

  • Old school credits - the poppy blue guy, you know what i mean.

  • Frosting on things that go through the gate - totally forgot about that!

  • Sam touching the event horizon of the stargate. It's not just an imaginary green screen projection, she makes it feel entirely real like, 'holy shit that is the event horizon of a wormhole'.

  • Daniel with enormous glasses!!!

Things I hate:

  • Jack's backstory - sooooo glad they dropped that fast. They inherited it from the film so I forgive them.

  • THAT speech by Sam, though perhaps I should move it into the 'lol' category.

Things I LOL at:

  • Apophis went backwards through an open wormhole.

  • omg australian mocking in the first ep!

  • Throwing a tissue box through the stargate.

  • The first thing Teal'c notices is a wrist watch.

Quotes:

  • "Let me be the cynic around here." - Jack

  • "You can actually see the fluctuations in the event horizon." - Sam, before Jack shoves her through the gate.

  • "It took us fifteen years to mcguyver a system..." - Sam

  • "The suns are comin' up." - Kawaloski

  • "Many have said that but you are the first that I believed could do it." - Teal'c

  • "I have nowhere to go." "For this, you can stay at my place." - Teal'c and Jack

  • "I am a Jaffa - bred to serve so they may live." - Teal'c

OMFG WOW:

  • Keyboard with stargate symbols. OMFG WANT. I'm a touch typist so I could actually use it.

  • Guys acting like jerks to a professional woman trying to work in a traditionally male field. It was like this in the 90's but shows like this helped to change that attitude.

  • The DHD!

  • The Gate System... and that fucking huge wall of addresses!

I hate that feeling where you're not sure what should happen next in a story. usually i'm writing stories in which i am heading toward an ending i have pre-arranged but in this case i'm writing blind and that's freakin hard. normally i'd kind of walk away at this stage and take a breather but it's nanowrimo and i'm behind as it is so i guess i'll have to make a call on the run and see how goes.

do i kill everyone or just a few? is it to be a happy ending or one with a bit of a macabre twist? i'm thinking the latter. this whole thing is about the cycles of life and repeating our mistakes so i don't see why i can't have the great hope at the end about to fall into the same trap as everyone else. it sends it up for a prequel (yeah lol that'll happen) but also takes the happy edge of things. I'm not as violent as shakespeare but i'm not in the habit of writing comedies either.

yep. no i think i'm going to make MACE make a few mistakes... big mistakes.

Just watched the first episode of Ripper Street Season 2 - it was okay but not like the highs of last season - it's missing some crucial lead female characters which is a real shame because they motived the male leads. Still watchable though.

Watching Dracula right now - except for Dracula LITERALLY TRYING TO BE TESLA (he actually mentions him and then goes on to claim he's bringing, 'free-safe-wireless electricity'. Every Tesla fan in the room has just rolled their eyes. This show better improve because i kind of wanted a cool dracula show.

WATCHED THOR 2 though. Don't want to spoil it too much except to say HOLY FREAKIN HELL THAT WAS ONE OF THE MOST EPIC FILMS EVER FOR PURE ENTERTAINMENT. Loved everyone. LOKI LOVE YOU.

New Shows!

Oct. 13th, 2013 08:32 pm
ellymelly: (time)
Okay so in the absence of anything decent to watch I decided to dabble in a few new ones with mixed results...

ATLANTIS (2013)

Apparently this is made by the same people who attempted Merlin. Now, as PG and (frequently pathetic) as Merlin was attempting to be a serious show with actual plot. I approached Atlantis with a similar expectation. Don't do that. Once you get over the initial shock, you realise Atlantis might just float into that rare atmosphere of hillarious parody.

To summarise:

The worst marine archeologist the earth has ever known (Jason - as in 'Jason and the Argonauts') spends two seconds staring at something before his underwater pod implodes - wakes up NAKED on the beach of an island where some random Greek peasant has left him clothes. Turns out this is ATLANTIS and, not the least bit phased his proceeds to run into a drunk, overweight Hercules (sure I'll pay that), who's co-habiting with Pythagoras (wtf he's not a mythological character, nor was he ever associated with Atlantis and if he was, totally the wrong time period but okay) and they are off to collectively fight the Minotaur (which is meant to be in Troy, not Atlantis) (and who was killed by Theseus - not Jason). PS his mother has a serious drug problem inhaling smoke from something which gives her visions of the future (which, forgive me but having been a study of Greek Mythology shouldn't Jason have some idea what he's in for?) and his father is possibly Poseidon.

Watch with tea and/or alcohol. Enjoy in large groups. Do not attempt to understand anything about it.

On a side note it taught me something important. That a CLUE is derived from the clue that Pasiphae gave Theseus to help him find his way back through the labyrinth. They may have got the mythology totally wrong but in trying to understand it I learned something.

THE WHITE QUEEN

Where has King Richard being hiding??? (Aneurin Barnard HOLY FRAKKING HELL).

Yes, this is an excellent (if not somewhat inaccurate and romantic) version of three brothers who would be king of England and the commoner who became queen. It's fast paced, gorgeous to look at and littered with a likeable who's who of English actors which frankly, I want to spend the next few months making gifs of because damn.

Watch it - if possible marathon it because it's really just one long story which is surprisingly about one of the forgotten kings of history.

Much love to the whole cast.

VIKINGS

Ahahahaha I loved this. It's not excellent, hell it's not even great but it has a really good theme song, an unforgiving commitment by the cast and Gabriel Byrne (which should be enough for everyone).

Speaking of, it's one of those shows that gets better the longer you watch it and by the last ep you are really rooting for a new series. No one is safe and it's fun to finally watch something viewed solely from the perspective of the Vikings instead of the English.

Have fun with it - don't try and use it as research for your paper on the history of Vikings. You'll fail.

CROSSING LINES

Watch it. This is a fun crime show set in Europe with plenty of pretty people who can actually act and a cast that is not safe. Complete with an overarching plot plus plenty of weekly 'whodoneit's. Notable appearances by Tom Wlaschiha (Game of Thrones oh yeah), Donald Sutherland and William Fichtner. This was the biggest surprise of the random shows I picked to watch. Indeed, I lost a couple of day's sleep over this so I suggest you start on a weekend. Bring on season two. It's been greenlighted, now all we have to do is wait - and re-watch - and re-watch...
